From Court to Tech, to a Talking Head

Chapter 1

This pretty much sums up my journey as a human being approaching 50 – half a century of happiness, love and painful challenges.

Happiness, love and pain are arguably the three pillars of life and can be interpreted through countless perspectives. I certainly had to figure it out multiple times from the perspective of a small child living in a super-privileged life of luxury, a boy discovering both the pleasures and the ugliness of violence through martial arts, a teenager obsessed with Basketball, an elite athlete, a student who’s fallen deeply in love, a young adult with shattered dreams, a clueless entrepreneur in the dark abyss of uncertainty, a father who almost lost a child, a man who’s getting old, and whatever that comes in between.

I came up with the term “Athmetric” because I’ve spent most of my life in two very different worlds, yet surprisingly similar:

  • As a championship-level elite athlete, and
  • As a hands-on biomedical science and deeptech AI entrepreneur for over 20 years.

In both worlds, I lived by one principle engraved in my mind from age 5, when I started training Karate in Abu Dhabi – arguably the world’s capital of martial arts: performance is measurable, but greatness is human.

Okay, maybe not in these exact words. It was more like: get your shit together and get rid of your ego!

And I know that you know, the ego point is the hardest challenge to deal with, especially for a man. I guess, I’m man enough to admit it?

This simple mindset is what I described to myself as the “Athmetric” way of doing things to help me simplify, with my neurodivergent brain, how I approach life with the discipline of an athlete, with the precision of data metrics.

Above all, Athmetric is about being creative and open-minded to learn how to be my absolute best at whatever I do, and stay disciplined and mission-driven.

I admit it, it can be somewhat obsessive and tiring. But take it from someone who was lucky enough to win multiple local and regional championships in different leagues, if you want to be a champion, then it is about enjoying the pain.

Yes, forget the celebrity or influencer cliché of “no pain, no gain”, which is half accurate at best. The reality is more like: “no pain, no gain, love the pain!”

It’s the mindset that has helped me approach every project, every challenge, and every reinvention of myself with focus and resilience. And this is the mission of this new venture.

Athmetric is the hub designed to help you elevate your mind, learn the true meaning of self-empowerment and inspire yourself and the people around you to greatness using real science, real data and real experts. Be it in business, sport, education, politics, life, or whatever journey you choose to embark on. The same principles apply.

Athmetric is not about being the “A*” in everything. It is about being your own A* in anything you put your mind to achieving.

Let’s get Athmetric!
